DOT GIS Data Layers

The DOT GIS Data Layers are a collection of GIS layers generated by the NCDOT GIS Unit.

Announcements (November 14, 2011):

Quarterly releases are scheduled for the following months: February, May, August, and November.
The Release of the NCMIN Tiers Layer and tabular data is now available.
The Release of the Road Characteristics layer is now available. Prior to downloading the layer, please review the improvements and known issues.
The Release of the Statewide Primary & Secondary Road Arcs and Statewide Primary & Secondary Road Routes is now available.
Metadata (information about the layer) is included for all layers available on this page and is bundled within the layer download.
The Linear Referencing System (LRS) Integration Guide is available to assist users with the LRS and referencing methods in the "Road Data" layers. Click here to download the .pdf document.

	A Microsoft Access database containing a single table of county, route, milepost, and NCMIN tier designations. This data set is derived from the NCMIN Tiers Data Layer.

NCMIN Tier Designations	An Arc Layer for visual representation of NCMIN Tier Designations on routes. This is a digital file of the North Carolina Department of Transportation's Linear Referencing System that represents the routes and attributes of the NCDOT state road system. The state road system is comprised of Interstate, US, NC, Secondary Routes, and Ramps.
Road Characteristics Arcs	Road Characteristics Arcs Shapefile Format	Road Characteristics Arcs File Geodatabase Format
	An Arc Layer for visual representation of a subset of road characteristics for the state road system. Each arc/record is split where road characteristics change along a route. This is a digital file of the North Carolina Department of Transportation's road inventory database that represents a subset of road characteristic attributes of the NCDOT state road system. The state road system is comprised of Interstate, US, NC, Secondary Routes, and Ramps. This layer also includes some non-state maintained and projected roads that are required for reporting purposes.

Statewide Primary & Secondary Road Arcs	An Arc Layer for visual representation of the state road system where each arc/record is split at each road intersection. This is a digital file of the North Carolina Department of Transportation's Linear Referencing System that represents the routes and attributes of the NCDOT state road system. The state road system is comprised of Interstate, US, NC, Secondary Routes, and Ramps and some non-state maintained and projected roads required for reporting purposes.

Statewide Primary & Secondary Road Routes	A Route Layer for visual representation of attributes stored by County/Route/Milepost linear reference. This is a digital file of the North Carolina Department of Transportation's Linear Referencing System that represents the routes and attributes of the NCDOT state road system. The state road system is comprised of Interstate, US, NC, Secondary Routes, and Ramps and some non-state maintained and projected roads required for reporting purposes.

NCDOT Bridge Locations	Bridge structures maintained by the NCDOT Bridge Maintenance Unit. See Bridge_Information.txt for information about the Bridge Maintenance Unit data.
NCDOT Bike Routes	Bicycle Routes shapefile (requires software that can read ESRI shapefile format)	Full State .pdf image of Bicycle Routes (requires Adobe Acrobat Reader)
NCDOT Bike Routes	The bike routes shapefile contains lines representing North Carolina bike routes, as defined by the Division of Bicycle and Pedestrian Transportation. Bike routes include the Interstate, State, County, Regional, and Urban routes and were based on the DOTRoads file, produced by NCDOT. The shapefile layer is in North Carolina Stateplane NAD83 meters format.
Integrated Statewide Road Network (ISRN)
Integrated Statewide Road Network (ISRN)	A statewide road layer that incorporates all road systems built from local and TIGER sources. This product is version 2 of an initiative to build, maintain, and incorporate all road systems in a comprehensive digital layer. See the documents within the ZIP file for a detailed product description, geocoding and networking instructions, and related statistics.
