This section consists of the general requirements for all reinforced concrete block masonry construction. The provisions of Section 842 will prevail over any conflicting provisions of this section.
Concrete footings and all other concrete elements of the structure shall be constructed in accordance with Section 825. Class B concrete shall be used unless otherwise indicated on the plans.
Mortar meeting the requirements of Article 10408 shall be freshly mixed. Any mortar which has developed initial set or which has lost plasticity will be rejected and shall be removed and disposed of by the Contractor.
Block masonry shall be built plumb and true to the required dimensions. Vertical joints shall be staggered. The block shall be set with the cells vertical. The bearing members shall be buttered and the vertical joints shall be full of mortar. Block shall be dampened when necessary to reduce the rate of absorption.
Joints shall be straight, level or plumb, and shall be neat at intersection. Joints shall be 1/4 to 1/2 inch thick except where otherwise indicated on the plans. Joints in all surfaces that will remain exposed after backfill shall be finished with a concave jointer. All other joints shall be flush cut.
Exposed exterior surfaces which will not be backfilled shall be cleaned of spilled mortar.
Truss type horizontal reinforcing shall be placed on every other course and in the bed joint of the top course of block. Reinforcing shall lap at least 6 inches.

The provisions of Article 8305 will be applicable to protection from cold weather.
There will be no direct payment for the work covered by this section.
Payment at the contract prices for the various items covered
by those sections of the specifications directly applicable to
the work being constructed will be full compensation for all work
covered by this section.
