SECTION 808

OBLITERATION OF EXISTING ROAD

808-1 DESCRIPTION.

The work covered by this section consists of the obliteration of an existing road outside of the construction limits.

808-2 CONSTRUCTION METHODS.

After traffic has been removed from the existing road, any existing pavement shall be removed or plowed upon, whichever may be directed by the Engineer, and the entire roadway shall be obliterated by filling or grading, and shaping, to a degree which will be pleasing in appearance and comparable to the adjacent topography and suitable for the application of vegetative cover.

Pavement removal, where required, shall be done in accordance with Section 250. Earthwork performed in obliteration shall be done in accordance with the applicable provisions of Section 225, "Roadway Excavation," and 230, "Borrow Excavation."

808-3 COMPENSATION.

All pavement which has been removed and disposed of will be paid for at the contract unit price for "Removal of Existing Pavement" in accordance with the provisions of Article 250­4.

All earth materials which have been excavated in obliterating the abandoned roadway will be paid for at the contract price for "Unclassified Excavation" in accordance with the provisions of Article 225­8.

Any additional material which is required to complete the reshaping of the roadway will be paid for at the contract unit price for "Unclassified Excavation" in accordance with the provisions of Article 225­8, or at the contract unit price for "Borrow Excavation" in accordance with the provisions of Article 230­6, depending on the source of the material.

All seeding and mulching which has been performed on obliterated areas will be paid for at the contract unit prices for the items established in the contract as payment for the work of seeding and mulching.

The above prices and payments will be full compensation for all work covered by this section, including but not limited to all breaking up, removing, and disposing of pavement; all plowing of the roadbed; all grading and excavation necessary to reshape the roadway; and all seeding and mulching.
