The work covered by this section consists of the removal and satisfactory disposal of debris and of dead, partially dead, or broken vegetation from wooded areas of the right of way outside clearing limits, and from other areas outside construction limits on which seeding and mulching is not to be performed, in accordance with these specifications.
Cut-over timberland, reforested areas, or thickets of young native volunteer vegetation will be considered to be wooded areas.
All materials shall meet the requirements of Division 10 shown below:

1650-3 CONSTRUCTION REQUIREMENTS.
All logs, stumps, snags, loose roots, down timber, slabs, tree laps, lumber, dead or partially dead trees, broken trees or brush, dead brush, sawdust piles, discarded fences, leaf piles, brick, tile masonry, and other debris shall be removed from the cleanup areas. All dead trees, stumps, snags, broken or partially dead trees, and brush shall be cut flush with the ground. Vegetation which dies between initial cleanup and completion of the project shall be removed prior to final acceptance. Hand raking of areas or removal of a normal leaf layer will not be required unless so stated in the special provisions.
When specified in the special provisions, stumps of partially dead or broken vegetation shall be treated with a herbicide immediately after cutting so as to prevent sprouting. The herbicide to be used and the method and rate of application, shall be as specified in the special provisions. The Contractor shall follow all applicable instructions, warnings, and safety precautions stated on the manufacturer's label, and shall comply with all laws and regulations governing herbicides that are in effect at the time of use.
All material cleaned up under this item shall be disposed of in accordance with the applicable requirements of Article 2005 and Article 8022.
1650-4 DAMAGE TO REMAINING VEGETATION.
The Contractor shall conduct his operations in such a manner to prevent injury to trees, shrubs, grass or legume ground cover, or other types of vegetation that are to remain growing, and also to prevent damage to adjacent property.
When any such injuries to trees or shrubs occur, broken branches shall be removed and rough edges of scarred areas shaped and made smooth in accordance with generally accepted horticultural practice. Any plants that are damaged to such an extent as to destroy their value for landscape purposes shall be cut and disposed of as directed by the Engineer, and grass or legume ground cover that is damaged shall be reseeded and remulched as necessary by the Contractor at no cost to the Department when so directed by the Engineer.
The quantity of wooded area cleanup to be paid for will be the actual number of acres of wooded area cleanup, measured horizontally, which has been completed and accepted.
The quantity of wooded area cleanup, measured as provided in Article 16505, will be paid for at the contract unit price per acre for "Wooded Area Cleanup." Such price and payment will be full compensation for all work covered by this section including but not limited to the removal and disposal of all debris and vegetation, treating stumps with herbicide, and repairing any damage to vegetation.
