The work covered by this section consists of the construction of brush barriers for the retention of silt along the toe of fill sections.
The quantity of brush barriers to be constructed will be affected by the actual conditions which occur during the construction of the project. The quantity of brush barriers may be increased, decreased, or eliminated entirely at the direction of the Engineer. Such variations in quantity will not be considered as alterations in the details of construction or a change in the character of the work.
Materials shall consist of brush and foliage, logs, filter fabric, wire staples and any other materials necessary to construct an effective brush barrier. All materials shall have been approved by the Engineer. Materials may be obtained from clearing operation along the project, or shall be furnished by the Contractor.
Filter fabric shall meet the requirements of Section 1056 for Type 3 engineering fabric, Class A or B.
Wire staples shall be a No. 9 staple and shall be at least 6 inches long.
The brush barriers shall be constructed as shown on the plans. The brush barriers shall be constructed at the locations indicated on the plans, or as directed by the Engineer. Each brush barrier shall be constructed before grading operations are within 200 feet of the site of the brush barrier.
The brush barriers shall be faced on the upstream side with filter fabric secured to the brush barrier with wire staples in a manner acceptable to the Engineer.
The quantity of brush barriers to be paid for will be the actual number of linear feet of brush barriers, measured along the centerline of each brush barrier, which has been completed and accepted.
The quantity of brush barriers, measured as provided in Article 16084, will be paid for at the contract unit price per linear foot for "Brush Barriers."
The item of "Brush Barriers" will be considered to be a minor item. However, the provisions of Article 1045 pertaining to revised contract unit prices for overrunning minor items will not apply as no revision in the contract unit price for "Brush Barriers" will be made as a result of any overrun regardless of the quantity of this item actually performed.
The above price and payment will be full compensation for all work covered by this section, including but not limited to furnishing any material that is not available from clearing operations along the project, furnishing and installing filter fabric and wire staples, transporting materials to the site of each brush barrier, and constructing the brush barriers.
