The work covered by this section consists of furnishing and placing pavement markers in accordance with the plans and specifications.
1250-2 MATERIALS - TRAFFIC QUALIFIED.
All pavement markers shall be either on the North Carolina Department Of Transportation's approved products list or be Traffic-qualified by the Traffic Control Unit. Before beginning installation of the raised pavement markers, the Contractor shall furnish to the Engineer sample pavement markers, detailed manufacturer's specifications, and other manufacturer's data which completely describe the pavement marker, including installation and instructions.
(A) Weather Limitations:
Pavement markers or replacement reflectors shall not be installed if visible moisture is present on the pavement surface or on the pavement marker. All pavement marker adhesives shall be installed as required by the manufacturer's specifications for weather and temperature limitations.
(B) Premarking:
The Contractor shall mark the proposed marker locations prior to installing pavement markers. Pavement markers shall not be installed until the premarking has been inspected and approved by the Engineer.

(D) Removal of Existing Pavement Markers:
Existing pavement markers shall be removed by the Contractor prior to overlaying an existing roadway with pavement. Pavement shall be repaired by filling holes as directed by the Engineer. When traffic patterns are changed, pavement markers that conflict with the new traffic pattern shall be removed prior to switching traffic to the new traffic pattern.
The removed pavement markers shall become the property of the Contractor. No direct payment will be made for removal of existing pavement markers or repair of pavement, as such work will be considered incidental to other items in the contract.
(E) Installation:
(1) General:
All pavement markers and adhesives shall be installed in accordance with their manufacturer's instructions.
(2) Color:
The color of the reflector shall correspond to the pavement marking that the marker supplements. Red reflectors may be required in combination with crystal or yellow reflectors to indicate wrong-way movement when viewed in the direction opposing the flow of traffic.
(3) Adhesives:
Adhesive shall be removed from the reflective lens of the marker, otherwise, the reflector or pavement marker shall be replaced.
(4) Spacing:
Pavement markers shall be spaced as shown in the plans. Marker
spacing shall be adjusted up to 10% to avoid installation at a
pavement construction joint or surface defect. If the relocation
distance exceeds 10% of the required spacing, the affected markers
shall be deleted.
