The work covered by this section consists of furnishing, installing, operating, maintaining, and relocating truck mounted impact attenuators and furnishing, stockpiling and removing repair packages (See Standard Special Provisions) in accordance with the plans and specifications.
All materials shall meet the requirements of Division 10 shown below:
Truck Mounted Impact Attenuators Article 1089-8
(A) General:
The provisions of Article 11053 will be applicable to the work covered by this section.
All impact attenuators shall meet the crash test requirements of Article 10898(B). Impact attenuators shall pass the NCHRP 230 45 MPH crash test. (See Standard Special Provisions)
Truck mounted impact attenuators shall not be parked against rigid objects such as bridge piers and portable concrete barrier except as a temporary safety measure until a stationary crash cushion is installed. This temporary use of impact attenuators shall be 72 hours maximum, or as shown in the plans.
The truck upon which the attenuator is to be mounted shall be fully operational. When in place as a stationary protection device, the attenuator shall be installed according to manufacture's specification.
The truck and the truck mounted impact attenuators shall have the appropriate lighting and delineation as shown in the plans.
(B) Repair Packages:(See Standard Special Provisions)
The number of truck mounted impact attenuator repair packages required by the plans shall be stockpiled for use on the project at all times when a truck mounted impact attenuator is in use. The stockpile area shall be on the project, or at a location near the project, approved by the Engineer.
During the process of repairing the truck mounted impact attenuator, the Contractor shall furnish adequate means acceptable to the Engineer to provide for the safe control of traffic through the construction area or shall suspend all construction activities requiring the use of the attenuator until the damaged impact attenuator is restored to operation.
All maintenance shall meet the requirements of Article 11054. Any truck mounted impact attenuator that becomes crushed or damaged so that it will not perform its intended purpose shall be immediately removed and repaired or replaced by the Contractor. (See Standard Special Provisions)
The quantity of truck mounted impact attenuators to be paid for will be the maximum number of truck mounted impact attenuators placed and in use at any one time during the life of the project.
The quantity of truck mounted impact attenuator repair packages to be paid for will be the actual number of repair packages which have been utilized during the life of the project. (See Standard Special Provisions)
The quantity of truck mounted impact attenuators, measured as provided in Article 11655, will be paid for at the contract unit price each for "Truck Mounted Impact Attenuators".
The quantity of truck mounted impact attenuator repair packages, measured as provided in Article 11655, will be paid for at the contract unit price each for "Truck Mounted Impact Attenuator Repair Packages". (See Standard Special Provisions)
Such prices and payments will be full compensation for all work covered by this section, including but not limited to furnishing, installing, operating, maintaining, and relocating, truck mounted impact attenuators, and furnishing, installing, stockpiling, and removing all repair packages.
