SECTION 1155

WARNING LIGHTS

1155-1 DESCRIPTION.

The work covered by this section consists of furnishing, installing, operating, maintaining, relocating, and removing warning lights in accordance with the plans and specifications.

1155-2 MATERIALS.

All materials shall meet the requirements of Division 10 shown below:

1155-3 CONSTRUCTION METHODS.

The provisions of Article 1105­3 will be applicable to work covered by this section.

Warning lights are used to supplement other traffic control devices at the locations shown in the plans, or as directed by the Engineer.

Type A Low Intensity Flashing Warning Lights are mounted on warning signs, or barricades and are intended to warn of approaching hazards.

Type B High Intensity Flashing Warning Lights are mounted on warning signs, or independent supports.

Type A and B flashing warning lights shall not be used for continuous delineation.

Warning lights shall have a minimum mounting height of 30 inches to the bottom of the lens. The lights shall be securely fastened to the top of the traffic control device they are supplementing. Large batteries shall be mounted below windshield height, preferably on the ground.

Type A warning lights shall be used between dusk and dawn. Type B warning lights shall be required to operate at night, or 24 hours per day if required by the plans.

1155-4 MAINTENANCE.

All maintenance shall meet the requirements of Article 1105­4.

1155-5 METHOD OF MEASUREMENT.

The quantity of warning lights to be paid for, will be the maximum number of warning lights acceptably installed at any one time during the life of the project. Relocation of the warning lights will be considered incidental, and will not be paid for separately.

1155-6 BASIS OF PAYMENT.

The quantity of warning lights measured as provided in Article 1155­5, will be paid for at the contract unit price each for "Warning Lights (Type___)".

Such price and payment will be full compensation for all work covered by this section including but not limited to furnishing, installing, operating, maintaining, relocating and removing warning lights.
