Purpose

The Traffic Noise/Air Quality Section provides specialized highway technical expertise in the areas of highway traffic noise and air quality. These are two environmental issues addressed in the transportation planning process that the public has shown increasing interest and concerns in recent years. The primary purpose of the section is to provide expertise in the areas of technical data collection, prediction of highway related impacts, and the mitigation of identified impacts. Furthermore, coordination and quality control is provided for traffic noise and air quality studies undertaken by private engineering firms. All analyses are reviewed to insure compliance with laws and regulations pertaining to highway traffic noise and air quality.
