| FROM: | W. J. Rogers, P.E. |
| State Bridge Design Engineer | |
| DATE: | November 24, 1997 |
| SUBJECT: | BULB TEE STANDARDS |
The standards, PCG9, PCG10, PCG9SM, PCG10SM, have been revised to show a reduction in the bulb tee bottom flange widths of 1" (26 mm ) to 2’-2" (660 mm). This modification will enable prestressing plants to use their existing AASHTO Type IV bottom flange pallets in the production of the bulb tees.
The revised geometry results in a decrease in the gross area and moment of inertia of approximately 0.8 % and 1.3 %, respectively. Therefore, existing designs of bulb tees need not be re-analyzed.
This policy is effective with the February, 1998 letting. The Design Manual and NCBDS will be revised accordingly at a later date.
