Criteria

Question:
I have a project in the mountains which requires a berm offsetting a shoulder section for safety sidewalk and bike path designs. Division has requested this and there may be several alignment changes during the process. Hand modifications to the cross sections will take too many man-hours to complete. Can Criteria help generate these sections automatically?

Berm Offsetting Shoulder Section Typical

Answer:
Yes, as an option per your design criteria, the Berm Offsetting Shoulder Section Criteria (boss01.cri) has been integrated into our Standard NCDOT Criteria Library for use. Here are some keynotes on how it works.
  • Boss01.cri should be used right after the shoulder Criteria (shld01.cri).
  • A ditch separates the berm from the shoulder section.
  • User Redefinable Variables (with default values)
  • Ditch Widths
  • Ditch Slopes (foreslopack slope)
  • Berm Width
  • Berm Slope
  • Fixed Cut Slope
  • Fixed Fill Slope
  • Boss01.cri should be used in lieu of standard side slope Criteria, e.g. ldss, adss, fdss, and cslp.
  • End conditions and daylight slopes behave like the catch slope Criteria (cslp01.cri) right after a typical berm.
  • No additional berm/shoulder widening for guardrail fill height/fill slope warrants implemented with the initial release (can be requested if needed).
