The NCDOT utilizes an Allis-Chalmers K-2 Gleaner combine for harvesting wildflower seed and centipedegrass seed. Wildflower seeds are typically harvested from the NCDOT wildflower farm at Claridge Nursery in Goldsboro and the rights-of-way. A specialized detachable head developed by the NCDOT is used on the combine for harvesting centipedegrass seed from rights-of-way in eastern parts of the state. Harvested seeds are cleaned, bagged, and distributed for planting statewide.
