"Yes! Yes! We Can Stop Littering"
Basic Overview - Joint program for all Area 2, Rotary District 7680 - Clubs
Objectives:
- Affect a cultural change to prevent littering
- Involve all the Union County Rotary Clubs in a joint community program
- Involve all the Interact clubs of Union County with the all the Union County Rotary Clubs
- Create Rotary awareness
- Affect and support pride in home, community and land by being good custodians of the land
The program is to begin with the 2001 and 2002 school year.
All 3rd grade students in the Union County Public School System will be tested in the 4th Grade for writing composition. This program will be used to compliment and prepare the 3rd Grade students for the 4th Grade test requirements by writing an essay on littering.
Five year program to affect cultural change to prevent littering. Program to involve all 3rd Grade students in Union County Public Schools. Essay to be Written about littering and what it does to our environment and the appearance of our homes, neighborhoods and the roadsides.
Each school to select the best essay and submit the essay to a committee made up of four rotary members - one from each of the county clubs in Area 2 of Rotary District 7680 to select the best essay for the county.
A T-shirt with the logo and "Yes! Yes! We Can Stop Littering" on the front and the Rotary emblem listing the four Union County Rotary Clubs on the back will be presented to each student that participates - each student will also receive a bumper sticker with the Rotary emblem and the wording "Yes! Yes! We Can Stop Littering."
Each school will receive a plaque announcing the school winner and each year the plaque will be updated with the name of the new winner for the school. Each year the county winner will receive a jacket identified the same as the T-shirts along with the personally engraved plaque.
A countywide art contest could be held to design a logo, which could possibly be used.
