MISSION STATEMENT

The duties and responsibilities of the Department of Transportation Oversize/Overweight Permit Unit are to review and process applications for single trip and annual permits for authorized movement of overdimensional and overweight vehicle/vehicle combinations and loads in excess of legal limits as stated in Chapter 20 of North Carolina Motor Vehicle law.

To assist the trucking industry with explanation of NC laws and permit policy. To ensure and support safe movement on all NC highways both for the general motoring public and the trucking industry and to prevent damage to all NC highways and the 17,000+ bridge structures.

Work processed current on a daily basis. All customer service provided by the Oversize/Overweight Permit Unit will be performed at the highest level of quality. It is our commitment to provide the most expeditious, accurate and direct service with visible cost awareness to our customers. To continue to train and inform office employees of law and permit policy revisions to enable top level service to our customers.
