District 3 contains the remaining 10% of the Interstate miles in
Division 3. I-40 enters the District near Castle Hayne in New Hanover County and continues through New
Hanover County to its terminus at milepost 420 in Wilmington. Another major highway, US 17, enters
the State near Calabash in Brunswick County and continues through Brunswick into New Hanover County to leave the
District a few miles North of Wilmington. Travelers along this main North/South coastal corridor will find
a Welcome Center near Shallotte to comfort their road weary bodies. Brunswick County shares a border with South Carolina while both counties share a border with the Atlantic Ocean. Wilmington is the largest municipality in Division 3 and the location of the Division and District offices. Other cities and towns in District 3 are Belville, Carolina Beach, Leland, Long Beach, Shallotte, Southport and Wrightsville Beach. |
