District 1 contains 30% of the Interstate miles in
Division 3. I-40 enters the District near Willard in Pender County and continues through Pender County
before leaving the District south of Rocky Point. Another major highway, US 17, enters the District near
Scotts Hill in Pender County and continues through Pender into Onslow County to leave the District near Maysville.
Other major highways include NC 24, 50, 210 and US 117, 258 and 421.
Both counties share a border with the Atlantic Ocean. Jacksonville is the largest municipality in the District and the location of the District office. Other cities and towns in District 1 are Atkinson, Burgaw, Holly Ridge, Richlands, St. Helena, Surf City, Swansboro, Topsail Beach, North Topsail Beach and Watha. |
