The work covered by this section consists of repairs to existing pavement which are necessary in order to provide a safe, passable, and convenient condition for traffic, or to replace pavement which has been removed in order to remove or to place pipe lines.
Repairing of existing pavement shall include but not be limited to the cutting of the existing pavement to a neat vertical joint and uniform line; the removal and disposal of pavement, base, and subgrade material as approved or directed by the Engineer; the coating of the area to be repaired with a tack coat; and the replacement of the removed material with asphalt plant mix.
The repairs shall be made in accordance with the plans, or as approved or directed by the Engineer.
Where a pavement repair detail is not shown in the plans, the type of asphalt plant mix to be used shall have been approved by the Engineer.
Where a pavement repair detail is shown in the plans, the type of plant mix shall be in accordance with the pavement repair detail except where the specifications permit the substitution of another type of plant mix.
In lieu of using the type of asphalt plant mix on the pavement repair detail, the Contractor may substitute any type of asphalt plant mix meeting the requirements of any job mix formula which has been issued by the Division of Highways for a project currently under contract. In areas where the existing pavement is not to be resurfaced, the Contractor will not be allowed to substitute a different type of surface course from that shown on the pavement repair detail.
An asphalt plant mix shall be used to repair portland cement concrete pavement as well as asphalt pavement.
(A) General:
Repair of existing pavement shall be done as approved or directed by the Engineer. The work shall be coordinated with all other work and operations necessary to maintain traffic.
(B) Pipe Removal or Installation:
Where traffic is to be maintained, the removal or installation of pipe shall be done in sections so that half the width of the roadway will be available to traffic. Immediately upon completion of the entire pipe line removal or installation, the pavement repair shall be made.
The quantity of asphalt plant mix to be paid for will be the actual number of tons of asphalt plant mix, complete in place, which has been used to make completed and accepted repairs, except for those repairs which have been made necessary by the contractor's negligence. The asphalt plant mixed material will be measured by being weighed in trucks on certified platform scales or other certified weighing devices.
The quantity of asphalt plant mix, measures as provided in Article 6544, will be paid for at the contract unit price per ton for "Asphalt Plant Mix, Pavement Repair".
The above price and payment will be full compensation for all work covered by this section, including but not limited to cutting, removal, and disposal of pavement, base, and subgrade; furnishing and applying tack coat; furnishing, placing, and compacting of asphalt plant mix; furnishing of asphalt cement for the asphalt plant mix; and furnishing scales.
Any provisions included in the contract in the form of project special provisions or in any other form which provide for adjustments in compensation due to variations in the price of asphalt cement will not be applicable to payment for the work covered by this section.
