Geopak Graphical Criteria
Shoulders

GGC Shoulders Summary

GGC shoulder Criteria is designed to identify the paved shoulders (width) in a GGC plan graphics file. The user can then configure how to handle the total usable shoulder width (paved shoulder + turf shoulder). Since the paved shoulder limits are stored as graphics, its width can either be variable, fixed or in combination of for the entire project. Both outside and inside shoulders are accommodated with GGC. A minimum of one set of shoulder definition is recommended in case a plan graphic paved shoulder line is not encountered in the Criteria input file. This should offer more flexibility to Critieria users and eliminate the need for multiple sets of shoulder definitions for projects with multiple paved shoulder designs. Also a more accurate slope stake limits for guardrail flare sections can be represented.

GGC Usage

CRITERIA FILE: SHLD01.CRI
DEFINE "GEOPAK GRAPHICAL CRITERIA FILE" (in Criteria input file)
GGC DGN: [TIP#]_rdy_ggc.dgn
GCC ELEMENT: copied from the DSN file using D&C Manager and adhoc attributes attached.

  • Level Name- Prop Paved Shoulder

GCC ADHOC ATTRIBUTES

  1. ggc_Shoulder Case
  2. ggc_Turf Shoulder Width (Applies to Configure Shoulder Case #2 Only)

GGC D&C Manager

Configuration Shoulder Case 1 determines the total usuable shoulder wdith from the Criteria input file. If the paved shoulder width is greater than the shoulder width statement, then the total usuable width is the same as the paved shoulder width.

Configuration Shoulder Case 2 determines the total usable shoulder width by adding a fixed turf shoulder width behind the paved shoulder line. Users can key-in a fixed turf shoulder width when presented with option through D&C Manager. Case 2 is the only line item under the GGC paved shoulder D&C folder that will open a dialog box for user's input.

Configuration Shoulder Case 3 determines the total usable shoulder width by locating the shoulder line as a DGN Element defined in the Criteria input file. This is an existing feature of Criteria and GGC was modified to integrate it to its workflow.

GGC Adhoc Attributes Definition

Name
Value
Description
ggc_Shoulder Case
1
Total usable shoulder width from Criteria input file. This value is locked.
2 Total usable shoulder width is derived from adding a fix turf shoulder width behind the paved shoulder line. This value is locked.
3 Total usable shoulder width is derived from locating a plan graphics defined DGN Element in the Criteria input file. This value is locked.
ggc_Turf Shoulder Width 0 (default) Only used when ggc_Shoulder Case value is 2. Key-in a desired fixed turf shoulder width behind the paved shoulder line.

GGC DEMO

Step 1.
Copy the paved shoulder line into the GGC DGN file by selecting one of the configure shoulder case number in D&C Manager. Use the "dl=0,0" command or one of the SuppAtta tools to copy the paved shoulder line from the DSN file into the GGC file at the same location.

Step 2.
After processing the Criteria input file, the paved shoulder and total usable shoulder widths are drawn by GGC.

Step 3.
Lastly, when generating slope stakes (limits of construction), guardrail flares should shift accordingly.
