Berm Offsetting Shoulder Section Criteria

File Name: boss01.cri, boss02.cri ...

Reference Standard No. : N/A

Required Definition Files: standard

Summary

The berm offsetting shoulder section criteria (boss01.cri) allows for the placement of a berm section (for sidewalk or bike path safety designs) offsetting from the mainline shoulder section. It is designed to work right after the shoulder criteria (shld01.cri). A ditch is formed separating the mainline shoulder and the berm.

Since this is a complete criteria, covering everything from the shoulder point to the slope stake point, boss01.cri should be used in lieu of all standard side slope end conditions, including ldss01.cri, adss01.cri, fdss01.cri, and cslp01.cri. A berm is built after the ditch and then completing the template with an end condition to tie to existing ground, without any width constraints. Here is a typical section applicable to the berm offsetting shoulder section criteria.

User Defined Variables

Note: If the default value for the variable definition is used, then it is not necessary to define it or include it in the input file.

FRONT OF DITCH

"BS01 FRONT DITCH SLOPE"
This variable specifies the desired foreslope of the ditch. The desired slope value is the horizontal distance for -1 unit distance vertically (H:V = X:-1 slope). This value should always be a positive number.
The default value is 6.

"BS01 FRONT DITCH WIDTH"
This variable specifies the desired front or the inside width of the ditch. It is the distance from the shoulder point to the ditch bottom point.
The default value is 12.

BACK OF DITCH

"BS01 BACK DITCH SLOPE"
This variable specifies the desired back slope of the ditch. The desired slope value is the horizontal distance for +1 unit distance vertically (H:V = X:1 slope). This value should always be a positive number.
The default value is 4.

"BS01 BACK DITCH WIDTH"
This variable specifies the desired back or the outside width of the ditch. It is the distance from ditch bottom point to the beginning of the berm.
The default value is 8.

BERM

"BS01 BERM SLOPE IN DECIMAL FORMAT"
This variable specifies the desired slope of the berm, going from the beginning/inside of the berm to the ending/outside of the berm. The desired slope value is in decimal format by taking the vertical distance per one unit horizontally (V:H = X:1). This value is normally a positive slope (positive value) but the user can use a negative slope value resulting a negative drainage slope toward the outside of the berm.
The default value is 0.02.

"BS01 BERM WIDTH"
This variable specifies the desired width of berm.
The default value is 9.

END CONDITION

"BS01 FIXED FILL SLOPE"
This variable specifies the desired slope to existing ground if the end condition is a fill section. The desired slope value is the horizontal distance for -1 unit distance vertically (H:V = X:-1 slope). This value should always be a positive number.
The default value is 2.

"BS01 FIXED CUT SLOPE"
This variable specifies the desired slope to existing ground if the end condition is a cut section. The desired slope value is the horizontal distance base off the +1 unit distance vertically (H:V = X:1 slope). This value should always be a positive number.
The default value is 2.
