How to Apply


Applicants must submit the HBCU/MSI Sch​olarship Program Application​ along with the following supporting documentation:

  • Unofficial university transcript
  • Resume 
  • One letter​​ of recommendation​

The Office of Historically Black Colleges and Universities Outreach Scholarship Program at the N.C. Department of Transportation helps foster new and diverse transportation professionals.

Scholarships support students of HBCU and minority serving institutions pursuing undergraduate and graduate degrees in transportation-related fields at one of North Carolina’s HBCU/MSI. 

This program provides $2,500 in financial assistance each academic year to help cover costs for highly motivated future transportation professionals and leaders.​

Who Should Apply

​Scholarship applicants must have graduated within the past three years from a North Carolina HBCU/MSI undergraduate or graduate degree program or be currently enrolled in an HBCU/MSI undergraduate or graduate program.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Resident of North Carolina
  • Completed at least 24 credit hours at a North Carolina HBCU/MSI
  • Currently enrolled as a full-time student at a North Carolina HBCU/MSI 
  • Minimum 2.5 GPA
