Subcontractors can work on Central Let contracts and Department Let Purchase Order contracts. Before beginning work, subcontractors must be prequalified by the Department. Once prequalified, firms must renew their status annually and requalify every three (3) years. The purpose of the annual renewal is to make sure the Department has a current address and Safety Index on file. During requalification, the Department will again ask for examples of work experience and an equipment list to support desired work codes.

All applications for prequalification (1st time, renewals, and requalifications) can be completed online, in lieu of submitting a paper application. In order to complete the application online, please read the instructions at the Instructions for Web Application link below prior to applying.

Once your firm is approved, it will show up in the Department's Directory of Transportation Firms with a Pre-Qualification Status of "Subcontractor". The Directory of Transportation Firms can be accessed by clicking on Contractor Directory under Navigation to the left.

Firms that are approved as subcontractors may also bid as prime contractors on purchase order contracts (POC's) that are let through the Division offices that are not labeled as Small Business Enterprise. Firms must be prequalified by the Department prior to submitting their bid on this type of project. For more details, see the discussion at About Prequalification.
