Why is prequalification necessary?

Prequalification is necessary to ensure that you have sufficient ability and experience to do the work specified in NCDOT contracts. Only bids from prequalified bidders can be accepted when a contract is advertised.

Once your firm is approved, its name will show up in the department's Directory of Transportation Firms as a subcontractor until the directory is updated in spring 2009. Firms that are prequalified as purchase order contract prime contractors may also perform work on all NCDOT projects as subcontractors, as well as purchase order contract projects let by the division offices and central units.

Requalification

Once your company is prequalified, it is not considered prequalified indefinitely. You must requalify every three years. You must also renew your firm’s status every year. The purpose of the annual renewal is to make sure NCDOT has a current Safety Index and address on file.

You can access the requalification form and renewal forms online.
