What Is ARMA?

The Association of Records Managers and Administrators, Inc. (ARMA) is a not-for-profit professional association formed on July 1,1975. ARMA’s purpose is as follows:

  • Promote and advance the improvement of records and information management and related fields through study, education, and research,
  • Advance professional knowledge and techniques by sharing and exchanging experiences and information related to the field of records and information management, and
  • Develop and advance standards of professional competence in the field of records and information management.

trIANGLE AREA CHAPTER HISTORY

On July 28, 1982, thirteen people gathered to form a local chapter of ARMA. They selected a temporary steering committee and voted on the name "triangle Area Chapter."

After several organizational meetings, December 6, 1982, became the new chapter’s charter night. Thirty-six people were in attendance for the installation of officers and the presentation of the charter to the chapter:

Since its inception, the chapter has experienced continual growth, with over 100 members. These members contribute to a wide selection of occupations within the realm of information management. The following industries and services are represented.

HOW TO JOIN ARMA

Any individual, holding or occupying a position as manager, supervisor, education, student or generally interested in the field of Records and Information Management shall be eligible for membership. Any individual so qualified may not be excluded from or denied membership in ARMA International, subject to the provisions of the Articles of Incorporation and Bylaws.

ARMA EVENTS

The triangle Area Chapter holds monthly meetings beginning in September and ending in May. Anyone interested in attending may contact the Chief Records Officer at 919-715-2320 for more information.

ARMA INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE
OCTOBER 4 - 7, 1998
HOUSTON, TX

Exploring the Information Universe

ARMA is the Association of Records Managers and Administrators. The 1998 conference, Exploring the Information Universe, will take a look at going beyond the conventional limits of information management. Educational and Networking Sessions can be chosen from over 50 different selections. Sessions cover the areas of Information Administration, Technologies, Career Advancement, Industry Specific, and Special Interests. Representatives from over 150 companies will be present to share products and services dealing with Information and Imaging Technology. The conference’s keynote speaker is Gene Kranz, former NASA flight director.

The cost of the conference with Advance Registration is $625 for members and $775 for nonmembers. Advance Registration must be postmarked or faxed by August 16.
