Liens on a Title
How do I record a lien on a title if the vehicle is already registered in owner's name?
- Complete the
Lien Recording Application (MVR-6).
Make sure that it is completed in the owner's name and indicates all lien information
(lien data, lienholder's name and address). It must be signed in the presence of a notary.
- Submit a $15.00 title fee.
- Return the Lien Recording Application (MVR-6), the fee and the North Carolina title to the
central office in Raleigh or your local DMV License Plate Offices. For a complete listing

How do I record a lien on a title if said title is held by a recorded lienholder?
- Complete the
Lien Recording Application (MVR-6).
Make sure that it is completed in the owner's name and indicates all lien information
(lien data, lienholder's name and address). It must be signed in the presence of a notary.
- Submit a $15.00 title fee.
- The Division will recall the title from the recorded lienholder.
